Why Did We Start MaVie?
We get this question a lot! So here’s the story of how two busy moms ended up creating MaVie, a keepsake that’s as practical as it is beautiful.
Beth and I both lead pretty full lives. She’s part-time in finance and runs a household with three young girls, while I work as a Chief Commercial Officer at a large, international company with two young girls of my own. To say we’re busy is an understatement—I'm actually flipping pancakes for my family while typing this first blog post. Multitasking at its finest, right?
The idea for MaVie came from a shared goal. Beth and I both wanted to create something meaningful - something of our own that would help solve a problem we were both facing. Fun fact: this isn’t our first try! We actually gave an organic baby formula business a shot, but the red tape got a little overwhelming.
But the school memory book? That idea hit close to home for both of us. As moms, we were drowning in school mementos—artwork, awards, class pictures, report cards—the works. We didn’t want to keep everything (I mean, who has the space?!), but we did want to save the pieces that truly mattered. I have a school memory book from my own childhood, and it’s a treasured keepsake. Even now, I crack up reading my old report cards and seeing how competitive 8-year-old Lisa was—definitely some things never change! My girls love seeing my class pictures too, and it’s so fun for them to see “Mom” at their age.
When my daughters started school, I went looking for a memory book similar to mine, with pockets for each grade to neatly store keepsakes. But I was disappointed. The books I found either had tiny pockets that couldn’t fit anything or just weren’t built to last (never mind being unattractive). That’s when I realized there was a big gap in the market for something both practical and beautiful.
It didn’t take much to get Beth on board. I pitched her the idea on a ski hill one weekend, and within a few weeks, we were off and running. It took us almost two years—lots of late nights and juggling our day jobs—but we finally brought MaVie to life. The response has been incredible. Seeing other moms connect with what we’ve created has been so rewarding.
Thank you for being here and for supporting MaVie. We truly hope our book helps you savor the school memories that mean the most, and maybe makes it a little easier to sort through that mountain of school mementos!
